Now here’s some real ‘Occupy’ genius – boycott America’s Top 100 Retailers at Christmas (Black Friday). These stores, in case the Occupy Genuis’ didn’t realize, employee hundreds of thousands of American workers – many of whom have that seasonal job to make ends meet. Further, this ‘capitalist engine’ drives the economy. Sure, let’s shut it all down until the lights go off. Now there’s some real, deep thinkig

Occupy Wall Street-inspired protesters are eyeing a new target — Target. And dozens of other companies.
A campaign under the name “Occupy Black Friday” is trying to enlist supporters to boycott just about every major retailer, and quite a few mid-sized ones, the day after Thanksgiving. The protesters are casting a wide net, urging people to demonstrate against the top 100 publicly traded retail stores — a list that includes everything from Wal-Mart to Target to Dick’s Sporting Goods to Dollar Tree.
“The idea is simple, hit the corporations that corrupt and control American politics where it hurts, their profits,” the group’s Facebook page reads, describing Black Friday as the “one day where the mega-corporations blatantly dictate our actions.”

Frankly, it is apparent how misguided the occupiers are in their actions. If I don’t have work, I look for work. Occupiers without work, blame others for not having work. There is a strong entitlement sentiment that is pervasive in the American culture today. This is fed through continued ‘class warfare’ rhetoric from politicians – mainly on the left.
Flashback to 1900 – if you didn’t have a job, you did what you could to provide support. Maybe you counted on the kindness of strangers in the form of Church or community aid. The government didn’t have to be the Nanny. Jobs were earned, not given as a right.
I glanced through my copy of the Constitution and still could not find a reference to “Right to Have a Job” or even “Right to EARN a Living” or the “Right to be Paid Regardless of Whether I Work or Not”. Maybe I should take a class in Constitutional Law to further understand whether I’m getting the nuances of the Founding Fathers’ intents.
As far as the Occupiers’ declaration against Crony Capitalism – I am on board with this. But don’t destroy property or disrupt commerce to make your point. Petitions are nondestructive and tend to gain support pretty easily. I’m all for term limits in Congress (just like with the Presidency) to keep the Barney Franks, Nancy Pelosis and Harry Reids of the world from spending so much time in Congress that they actually make more money in Congress than before they entered public service. Hmmm, public service… what public are they serving anyway?
